What to take tonight
Alas, the Migraine cafe is open We’ve got triptans, green, white, and a spray Or lidocaine, muscle relaxers, emetics, or some painkillers might do It’s a menu of options I don’t want to try but it’s time to choose, as opens the sky. Welcome to the checkout lane of the Migraine cafe.

Apologies...
I’ve been getting my other blog http://bopiseverywhere.tumblr.com up and running. Since this allergy to a stupid root- used in so many products, (as “fragrance”, or masking fragrance to make things not stink- like in meds…) and without a listing published ANYWHERE of all of its appearances in daily life, and it’s been playing such a huge role in my life as I try to...

THIS IS WATER- But most days if you're aware... →
Speech given by David Foster Wallace to Kenyon College’s 2005 graduating class. There are these two young fish swimming along And they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way Who nods at them and says morning boys how’s the water? And the two young fish swim on for a bit and eventually One of them looks over at the other and goes What the hell is water? The point of the...

One day, I looked in the mirror, part deux
Last year, during HAWMC, my friend’s fiancee was diagnosed with cancer. My post for that day made no sense in the light of the prompt. And this weekend, we drive to their wedding; I hadn’t met her hat the time, but I knew that she had to be special if he was marrying her. She is. I met her earlier at another of that clique’s wedding. Great sense of humor, and even with the end...

HAWMC day 30- I made it (sorta)
Prompt:Describe your HAWMC experience in one word! “Aprillicious.” April is the worst month for my Migraines. So, the fact that i got this many posts off is kind of a testament to my drive to get this done. I’ve once again learned that it’s okay to take care of me. But even in my worst month, I did well. It felt good to write when the highs of lack of pain and the...

HAWMC day 29- Congratulations:
Prompt: We all know Health Activists are awesome. Share three things you love about yourself, things you’re great at, or just want to share. Don’t undercut or signpost! Ugggh. I think I’d rather write an essay about the life of a dung beetle. 1) I’m a former music minor. (vocal performance) I’m a pretty great sight-reader, I am a soprano (shh, don’t tell…),...

HAWMC day 28- Must follow:
Follow your heart. I also agree with Emily over at This Post at the M- Word. We all are searching for something different- information support caring But don’t follow internet spammers, those who claim to have a cure… or are just jerks, messing with others in the community. (if you don’t know who they are right now… You’ll find them- and don’t bother...

HAWMC DAY 21- ADVERSITY
Prompt: “The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all.” – Mulan True or false? When do you bloom best? I bloom as an advocate when I get really ticked off. I write, I take action, I do something about my emotions and pour them into constructive things. As a person, I think I bloom in various ways. Some might say that I’m best when pushed and taken advantage...

HAWMC day 26- a pain free day
I needed more than one this week. While I’m feeling better today, I feel like I missed a week of my life. I’m several days behind on here, I missed a doctor’s appointment. (bad jamie) Spent several days on the couch.

HAWMC Day 27- My Biography
Five working titles: 1. Get me off this roller coaster 2. There’s got to be a lesson in this somewhere- and finding it. 3. Pharmanerd- learning about retail pharmacy without the student debt 4. Many tales of a left-leaning computer dork 5. I still have my sense of humor, and you can’t take THAT from me.

HAWMC Day 18- "I don't take it back:" My Real...
Yes, I know, this does not follow the prompt. but why do we have to “forgive and forget always?” does that mean that we’re good little health activists, or good little chronically ill folks. I never said this out loud, but I’ve thought it many a time. And thus, I must change the prompt, and air my thoughts. Because we all know that storing up negative emotions can’t be healthy. And thus, what...

HAWMC- Misinformation: The three truths and a lie...
Here were the choices from the original post over here 1. I can’t tolerate Imitrex, and almost wound up in the hospital from a dose given to me in a doctor’s office. True 2. I often experience aphasia with my Migraine attacks, and wish that my partner and I could communicate with sign language. True 3. I’m phonophobic during a Migraine attack, but not photophobic. False I’m...

HAWMC- MIGRAINE ACROSTIC #2- DAY 13
My head is still filled with fuzz It’s not like a hangover, I can’t explain the feeling though. Gastroparesis remains with my body- it won’t leave yet. Reglan makes me go absolutely bonkers, so I’m stuck with this Awful feeling until I come back fully, and the postdrome passes. Normal emotions return and mood swings pass. Ending this episode of sheer horror.

HAWMC Day 12- A letter to a newly diagnosed Jamie.
Dear Jamie, I’m writing this to you on the day of your diagnosis. You’re allergic to Balsam of Peru (BoP). Yes, no one’s ever heard of it. CRAP. Oh, did I say crap? There are a lot more four letter words I’d like to use, but for now, we’ll say “crud.” Yes, BoP is in all fragrances… And in Shampoos. You’ll try out some shampoos. Um-...

Prompt: Say WHAT!? What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve heard about health or your condition? Where did you hear it and what did you think? Can’t pick just one. HAWMC- DAY 5 Activism
April 12, 2020, Chapel Hill, NC: All products with fragrances (yes, even masking fragrances, devised to take the awful smell out of things) must be labeled as such due to the perseverance of allergy activists. “It was miserable when I was diagnosed,” said Jamie, a blogger, and former sufferer of severe allergy to Balsam of peru- a substance found in “fragrance.” She...

Mourning a diagnosis I don't have.
It’s the strangest feeling. I should be elated… but I’m not. I was comfortable in my own skin, having adopted a diagnosis, gone through the stages of mourning about that, gone through the stages of grief- and finally realized that this was something I was going to live with my whole life. And suddenly, that whole period of mental mechanics, going through the grief process was...
