“had been spread out in Molina Conference room - and hungry employees from other floors were drifting in and out to have a bite. From:Street Fighters” by Kate Kelley
The things she missed most, work, “just grabbing a bite without thinking of the ingredients” and interacting with others in real life jumped out at her as she read that sentence. She pondered the source of the quote for a brief minute; knowing that it was about real employees, who would soon be caught in the financial collapse of the recession, and lose the work element, like she did.
She wondered if they had sent out as many resumes, gone on as many interviews, and then had their health deteriorate to the point where the chinese food wash’t the only thing missing from their lives in the near future. Were they working? Did they have health insurance? Were their medical concerns something that they had to think of before taking a job?
She realized that dinner, while yummy, today, hadn’t been Chinese food, and suddenly she craved General Tso’s chicken, but there was no place down here in not- NYC that was still open.
And suddenly, she craved more than the chinese food. She oddly craved the city of her birth, and all it could offer for someone like her. And wondered if this was a temporary thing, or would it continue… it had been popping up more and more lately.
